A Great Briton, that is, I come from Great Britain but my adoptive country is Brittany!
I’ve been living on the Pink Granite Coast since 2010, a really beautiful place where every single walk comes with a breathtaking view.
Perfectly bilingual in English & French, I also have a pretty good grasp of Breton and a little Spanish too.
In my spare time you’ll find me puzzling over Wordle, baking cakes, tending to my vegetable patch, walking with friends, playing board games with the family, holidaying through home exchange, going to the cinema or watching any good Netflix series.
But more than anything else in the world, I love to snuggle up on the sofa with a good book, a cup of tea and some chocolate!
How did a Yorkshire lass end up in Brittany, speaking Breton?!
Biskoazh kemend-all! (Never have I ever !)
During my studies of European Business & French at the University of Salford, I chose Brittany as the location of my one year internship abroad. This is where I learned to speak real French, not the stuff of textbooks!
After 9 years back in the UK – studying, working in bilingual sales administration and starting a family – I moved back to Brittany with my family in 2010.
Missing the same work opportunities available in the UK, I qualified as an English teacher for adults and really enjoyed this work for the next 7 years.
After returning to an order management role at a French company for a few years, I decided it wasn’t for me.
The pandemic gave me the opportunity for a fresh start and I used this chance to do a 9-month intensive Breton language course with Roudour. My kids were schooled in Breton at Diwan (Breton-medium schools) and although I’d had some lessons, I really wanted to be fluent!
As everything started to come together, my new career path became clear.
A job using all my languages, but with the flexibility of working from home and fitting in around my family.
It had to be something meaningful that matched my values : helping, communicating and sharing knowledge.
I decided to become a French and Breton to English translator and MC Translations was created in October 2022.
I love Brittany and its people.
Through my translations, I want to share my passion for this place, its culture, and its language with people around the world, helping it transcend borders.
As someone actively involved in Breton associations, I love helping to spread the word about the vital work being done and the people behind it.
My translations enable local associations and businesses to connect with international supporters and clients.
Communication is key! Clear, concise messages are the best way to capture attention and share information. I love working closely with my clients to support them in their projects.
